Mixed Grill IX

Here's a new selection. Take it or leave it. Some a little more serious than in the past, but not all. I'm adding some things I just happen to like.

Sole searching – A full-time activity for Imelda Marcos

Voice Squad – Speech police. They're good at detecting microaggressions and targeting, even when they don't exist. Doesn't that make your space safer?

Solo – The biography of gospel singer, J. D. Sumner

Always be sincere, whether you mean it or not (President Harry Truman) – There's nothing like putting the sin in sincere.

Perverse:
The shades of night were falling fast
The night was falling faster
When through an Alpine village passed
An Alpine village pastor

Beware the Jabborwock, my son
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!
          The clergy will comment on any issue, but you may not like what they say. In fact you may not understand it.

Gluten Shabbos – Sabbath greeting to a bagel lover. Never to be wished to someone with celiac disease or to someone who believes himself sensitive to gluten. For such folks, Non-gluten Shabbos is more appropriate. Glutton Shabbos works for the gourmands among us.

No drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed, and love of power. (P.J. O'Rourke)

Loudmouth – Like a palm, it becomes more compliant when greased

Wolf – Tail gunner

Day by Day – Dennis on Doris

How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world. (Anne Frank) – Truly a sentiment of the young and naïve. It is only later that they discover that the world can be worsened just as quickly by those who choose to do so. And, sadly, the world does not lack for such people.

These are the times that try men's souls – Early, and accurate appraisal of the gray lady by someone who gave her the dickens.

My bonnie lies over the ocean – So do many who call themselves environmentalists

Ciao – Goodbye. I want to eat.

The world stands out on either side
No wider than the heart is wide;
Above the earth is stretched the sky,
No higher than the soul is high.
The heart can push the sea and land
Farther away on either hand;
The soul can split the sky in two,
And let the face of God shine through.
But East and West will pinch the heart
That cannot keep them pushed apart;
And he whose soul is flat – the sky
Will cave in on him by and by.
(Edna St. Vincent Millay)

Day after tomorrow, August 8th, is National Happiness Happens Day – But don't fret, November 19th is Have A Bad Day Day.

Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me – Isaac Newton's pickup line.

Near miss or near hit?

Common Sense – An attribute, like wisdom, unique to The Imperious Loudmouth

I like the idea of including some sort of serious comments. Whether you do or not is irrelevant.
